MAKING A HOUSE, A HOME
If I had it my way, I would have a candle on every surface top; and every branch that could hold a lantern. One of the easiest, and nicest ways to create an atmosphere or mood, is with candles. There is such luxury to having a string of fairy lights and a couple scented candles burning. As you may know, Christmas is my favourite time – and candles are a definite Hygge enabler. Having said that, I have candles going all year round. It’s just as relaxing during the summer, to push open the windows and enjoy the breezy evenings with a book and floral scent.

Now, of course I was going to be clichéd and include Jo Malone. Would it really be a candle post if I didn’t? Yes…before you ask Diptyque will also be in this list. Pricey, yes! Worth it? Completely!! I was recently spoilt for my birthday but if you have any travel plans coming up, duty free is a good way to stock up. Enjoy the shopping experience, and ask for advice. The lovely assistants will be able to recommend a good scent for your taste. Hopefully they’ll will treat you to some cheeky samples too, if not you can at least admire the packaging. – I love the added perk of the long matches, I didn’t realise they were in the box for about 3 months!

Neom is the candle you need after a hard week at work! What I love about Neom is the purpose behind their scents. They have different products aimed at various wellbeing outcomes; the range includes a candle to calm & relax, a candle to sleep and even one to make you happy!! They use natural essential oils to help up-lift and balance. If you’re a sucker for a 3 wick candle, like me, this might be the one!

Ah, my beloved timeless Diptyque. I just love everything about these elegant candles. Especially the minis! The packaging is beautiful, the typography couldn’t be better (in my opinion) and the scents are, importantly, amazing! I bring these out for my dedicated pamper evenings; plus there is always a use for an empty Diptyque jar!

Start with their foaming shower gel and end with a candle and a book! There!.. Your Sunday evening sorted. If you’re not sold on the above, pricier options, then have a look at these. Candles are like experiences, they evoke different moods and assist in creating an atmosphere; a small compliment to the occasion. These should definitely do the job.

If you burn candles at the rate I do, you need a casual stock to go through, without burning a hole though your pocket (impressive unintentional pun). Yankee Candle wax melts are a good alternative. My go to for festive scents, (with names like christmas cookie how can I not?) which at times can be pretty heavy; so if you’re lighting them in small rooms I’d recommend burning half or creating some air flow.
So there you have it, my not so surprising candle list. That being said, these guys are mentioned again and again for good reason. My candle addiction won’t stop anytime soon, so if you have any undiscovered recommendations I’d love to hear.
